“How long have you known Leonidas?” I ask as I start walking.

“Are you really going to go out with him?”

“I said I am. I have no intention of ghosting him. How long have you known him?”

“I’m really not comfortable with the idea of you going out with him.”

“That’s nice. Are you going to answer my question or” I stop walking and turn to face him, “am I saying good-night to you now?”

Mikael sighs, “I will answer your question. I’ve known him for the last thirty years or so. We have maintained casual contact since we met. We move in different circles for the most part. He is useful for the occasional odd job I need done that skirts legality.”

“So you keep in contact with him because he is good for the times you don’t want to get your hands dirty? Wonderful.” I start walking again, “What haven’t you told me about the bond between us? The one from you turning me. Not the one from our previous relationship.”

“Heerrmm, um that one. You may not like it so much. And that’s why I didn’t tell you about it. I knew it would just make you more mad than you already were when your memories came in. I promise I haven’t been using it though. I found you by scent.”

“What does it do, Mikael?”

“It allows me to track you and know your emotions. But the effect does wear off over time.”

“I see. And does this happen faster if they are separated?”

“No. Time or death are the only ways to end it. But, I can promise not to use it if you aren’t in trouble.”

“How are you going to know I am in trouble if you aren’t using it?” He pales and I know I’ve caught him red-handed. “How would you know, Mikael?”

“I would hope that you would call me.”

“Have you ever given me your phone number?”

“Maybe?” He shrugs, “I really have not been using it, I promise. Not like all the time. Just occasionally to check in on you. I kept an eye on you the night you left.” He looks away, “Just to be sure.”

I narrow my eyes and keep walking. I wonder… “You can feel whatever I feel? When you choose?”

“Yes. Generally one would try not to be invasive, closing it off when it appears the student needs privacy.”

“Meaning that if I have sex, you will be able to feel it?”

“Theoretically, yes.”

“Ok. You haven’t once used that while you and I were having sex?”

His mouth fell open and he grimaced, “Um, no. I don’t want to feel your emotions while we have sex. Having your stuff in me while we… no. That would be weird.”

“So you wouldn’t want to feel it when you do something and I am really into it? That wouldn’t turn you on? Really? Because I am kind of turned on thinking about it. I almost want to turn someone just for the experience.”

Mikael jumps in front of me, causing me to slam into him. He catches
